[Martial Arts] My Xingyi Quan Master Zhao Hongwei GrandmasterAuthor: Jeffi Chao Hui Wu Time: 2025-6-29 Sunday, 7:12 AM ········································ [Martial Arts] My Xingyi Quan Master Zhao Hongwei
Master Zhao Hongwei is one of the most influential martial arts masters in my life. He is a direct disciple of Master Li Chunling, the "King of Divine Power in Northeast China," the authentic inheritor of Che's Xingyi Quan, and the founder and head of the Zhao's Xingyi Taiji School. In his early years, he taught Xingyi Quan in the Northeast region, quickly establishing a high reputation in the military, special police, armed police, and public security systems due to his profound skills and unique practical experience, becoming an important instructor for martial arts training in various units.
As time passed, his students spread across the country and even overseas, growing from initially over a hundred to thousands. The lineage of Zhao's Xingyi Quan gradually expanded, becoming one of the rare orthodox internal martial arts in modern society that still maintains a rigorous transmission system.
Several of his important disciples and inheritors continue to promote Zhao's Xingyi Taiji in different regions: — Mr. Lin Wenhui, currently the president of the International Taiji Academy, the first-generation inheritor of Wang Xian's boxing method, and also the president and head of the Hong Kong Zhao's Xingyi Taiji Association; — Mr. Wu Chaohui (myself), currently the president and head of the Australian Zhao's Xingyi Taiji Association, as well as the president of the Australian International Qigong Taiji Academy, the twelfth-generation inheritor of Chen's Taiji and the sixth-generation inheritor of Wu's Taiji, a disciple of the renowned Taiji master Shan Ying; — Mr. Zeng Li, serving as the president of the Shenzhen Zhao's Xingyi Taiji Association and the head of the Shenzhen region.
My connection with Master Zhao Hongwei can be traced back to 2007 when I was introduced by Senior Brother Lin Wenhui. I was fortunate to meet Master Zhao for the first time and was deeply impressed by his reserved yet sharp demeanor, steady presence, and profound skills. Our exchanges deepened over time, and in 2024, Master Zhao officially accepted me as the ninth-generation disciple of Che's Xingyi Quan, solemnly issuing a disciple certificate that clearly states I am "one of the heads of Zhao's Xingyi Taiji School," hoping I can further promote the way of Xingyi in Australia.
The disciple certificate bears Master Zhao's handwritten signature and seal, recording not only a master-disciple agreement but also a legacy and entrustment. From then on, I became even more determined to promote this martial art to the world. Whether giving lectures, teaching, or demonstrating martial arts at home or abroad, I uphold the name of a disciple of Zhao's school, strictly adhering to the school rules and promoting authenticity.
Today, Master Zhao Hongwei continues to teach in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, striving for precision and depth in every explanation of boxing principles and demonstration of techniques, leaving nothing reserved. He often says, "True skill is not hidden but practiced and passed down." I am deeply inspired and keep this in mind.
In an era where Chinese martial arts are increasingly commercialized and performative, Master Zhao steadfastly upholds the essence of traditional Xingyi Quan—rooted in practical combat, based on internal cultivation, and with inheritance as its soul. This spirit is the martial way I wish to follow for a lifetime.
